Program Offerings

Youth Development Program

Piers Park Sailing Center provides free, fully inclusive educational programs for underserved youth who are at-risk or living with a disability.

In all of our Youth Development Programs children with disabilities will participate with his or her same aged “typical” peers.  Instructors adapt their teaching styles, provide additional equipment or staff if needed.  In 2010, the number of disabled youth participants tripled.

We recognize that there are very few recreational opportunities for children with disabilities. PPSC is proud to serve disabled youth from across New England and aim to expand our outreach in 2011.

Specialized Programming

We will design a 5 lesson program series for your youth group.  Instructors promote how to work as a “Crew” while teaching basic sailing skills and terminology.  Our specialized programs are suitable for children ages 10-18 and appropriate for all abilities.

Adaptive Scholarship

A key element of our mission is to make our fully inclusive programming available to as many disabled people as possible.  We recognize, that due to various factors, many our disabled members are living on fixed incomes.  As a result, PPSC is proud to offer a limited number of annual Scholarships.

Primarily, we fund our programs through charitable grants.  These grants enable us to offer Scholarships and subsequently allows us to meet our goal of providing empowerment.

If you are interested in applying for a Scholarship or Donating to the scholarship fund please contact our Adaptive Sailing Coordinator Maureen McKinnon-Tucker.
